In SMARTFITNESSPh, we discovered our deepest why way back in 2020 when we saw how much misinformation there was in the mainstream fitness industry.
And how the QUALITY programs, workouts, and online coaching were only accessible to people who had the luxury of spending thousands of pesos.
BUT WE DECIDED TO CHANGE THE GAME
And that is how we wanted to create an impact and go against the grain through the mainstream fitness industry through science-based programs to help our clients become the best version of themselves.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Before we proceed, let me introduce myself first. Get to know me better and you will realize how I’ve been to where you are now.
Hi, my name is Enver. This was me when I started my fitness journey. 5’9 and around 59kg
To be honest, during this time, I never really thought that I was skinny. I thought I had the lean athletic type because my abs were technically visible.
Also during this time I always wear jerseys and fitted shirts to reveal the contour of my body.
I thought to myself that this would only take me 2 years to achieve the dream physique that I always see in movies and series, even though I have no knowledge and expertise with regard to workouts and diet at that time.
My first few workouts were tough. I was very insecure about my body compared to the people in the gym. I had the sudden realization that I was nowhere near my dream body and I was in fact skinny, not lean.
I get conscious of people around the gym every time I meet someone in the eye. What I thought they were thinking was, “May bago na namang lampa dito sa gym, ang gaan gaan lang naman ng mga binubuhat.” (look at this new skinny dude in the gym, he can’t even lift heavy weights.)
This went on for a couple of months that’s why I never really talked to anyone in the gym. I never even asked for a tip from muscular dudes in the gym because I thought I’d be getting in their way.
This led me to follow random programs on Google and YouTube. I had to change my program every now and then because I keep hearing new tips from fitness gurus. Eventually, almost 2 years have passed. What I thought would take me two years to achieve my dream physique was a farce. I had a mediocre physique. To add insult to injury, people would often say, “Nag g-gym ka naman pero bakit hindi halata sa katawan mo?”(You’re going to the gym often, but why can’t I see any progress?)
But I thought to myself “No Pain, No Gain, kailangan ko lang mag grind ng todo at darating din yung katawan na pinapangarap ko.” (No Pain, No Gain, I just need to grind more and eventually my dream body would come.)
Eventually, the gym only became an occasional habit for me, and the goal of achieving a certain physique that I dreamed of two years ago was gone.
I was stuck in a loop, almost like in limbo. Yes, I gained strength; I grew a few muscles here and there, but I was never really satisfied with what I saw in the mirror.
Every time I see my reflection in the mirror, there is always something missing; there is always something that I am not content with. This went on for weeks, months, and even years.
But there was a problem, I was nowhere near my dream physique. I gained a ton of fat along the way. My body looks good every time I wear a shirt that fits well, but I am embarrassed to take it off every time I go to the beach because of the excess fat I gained.
This was me in my 5 th year of working out in the gym.
A typical long-time gym goer but still has a mediocre physique.
After a few years of lifting, I was finally able to pack on a decent amount of muscle.
But there was a problem, I was nowhere near my dream physique. I gained a ton of fat along the way. My body looks good every time I wear a shirt that fits well, but I am embarrassed to take it off every time I go to the beach because of the excess fat I gained.
Because I had no idea what diet I should do for me to gain muscle, I listened to the typical gym tip, “Just eat big to get big”.
And so every time I finish working out, I would eat 3-4 cups of rice and random viands thinking the food I ate will convert into muscle.
I felt very frustrated with my body. My friends and family would just say I became fatter by going to the gym.
Because of this, I felt even more insecure compared to when I was very skinny. So I started to “Diet”.
I never really knew how to properly lose my belly and love handles. What I did was drastically cut down my rice, went intermittent fasting, and deprived myself of every sweet and treat I used to love.
After a few months of not eating out with my friends and family, no rice and no sweets, I was able to shred the majority of my fat.
And then it hit me again, I faced another plateau.
I reached the SKINNY FAT body. This is where you look skinny in the limbs and the face but I still had my lower belly and love handles sticking out.
I barely ate anything just to lose my fat but my weight won’t come down anymore. I was stuck.
I felt weak in my daily activities, strength and energy in the gym came crashing down.
I felt hopeless.
That was when I had enough. I thought to myself that I was only working HARDER not SMARTER.
After a few months of scouring the internet for answers, I was able to meet a coach who taught me the basics of workout and nutrition. Experimented on the program and went on to research about specific answers I was looking for.
Finally after putting everything together. I was able to create a SYSTEM that made me work SMARTER in both the gym and diet.
The body you see on the right is the exact same body my 17-year-old self pictured out.
I was finally happy and satisfied with what I achieved.
Because of the program I created, I was able to achieve this by just going to the gym 4 times a week, and eating the foods I love – rice, sweet treats, and even samgyup!
The very principle I believe is with everything you do, there is always a SMARTER way to do things.
This saves you valuable resources such as your time and money.
So to backtrack, I spent almost 6 years in the trial and error phase. I wasted so much time and effort in the gym by working out 6 times a week, 2 hours + a day. Bought useless supplements that I thought would help me in my fitness journey just because people in the gym suggested them.
